Letter to the Editor: Inspired by Career Gear’s Mission
We receive Penn College’s magazine because our son is a student there. I read your article (“First Impressions Matter”), and my heart just goes out to any student who is dismissed as a serious candidate solely on his/her interview attire. I agree with you that this is particularly discouraging if those clothes are indeed the best ones the student owns. God willing, our son will soon be interviewing for jobs, and I think of how very disappointed he would feel if he were treated that way. I would hate for that to happen to him or any other student, if there was something we could do about it.
We were inspired to go through our closets and came up with some things of our own that may be helpful to you.
I hope your story will do much to garner donations for your Career Gear inventory. I also appreciate the other services Career Services offers, and I hope our son will be taking advantage of them. God bless you and your colleagues for all you do to make these students successful in the work force.
